House was renewed for an eighth season on May 10, 2011. It premiered on October 3, 2011. It is the first season not to feature Lisa Edelstein as Dr. Lisa Cuddy. Olivia Wilde (Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley) has also left the show after the third episode in order to further her film career. David Shore said that it is unknown at this point whether the eighth season is going to be the last. On January 8, 2012, Kevin Reilly (Fox President of Entertainment) stated that Fox has been "avoiding" a decision on the fate of the series, as it was "hard to imagine the network without House" and that the decision on the future of the series would be a "close call".[citation needed] Hugh Laurie's contract on House expires once the eighth season is over, and Laurie has confirmed that once House is over, he will be moving on to strictly film roles. Series creator David Shore is currently in talks with Fox to decide if the eighth season will be the final season.
The opening sequence has changed again. It adds Charlyne Yi and Odette Annable, and Lisa Edelstein and Olivia Wilde were written out. Epps takes the place of Edelstein, and Leonard, Spencer and Jacobson level up.
